The signing by the President of Turkmenistan of Resolution No. 1149 dated 22 February 2019, “On the Construction of a Bicycle Building in Ashgabat”, was a joyful event for the nation’s sporting community. This landmark was erected by our private enterprise at the intersection of Chandybil Avenue and Bekrewe Street in Ashgabat. On 3 June 2020, at the same crossroads, the honoured Hero Arkadag presided over the opening ceremony of the Bicycle Building, which has since become an architectural hallmark of the capital. According to the design, the structure has a diameter of 80 metres and a height of 35 metres; its entire form showcases the national values of the Turkmen people. One side of the globe set in the centre depicts a laden caravan moving along the Great Silk Road through deserts and mountains, symbolising the unbroken journey of cultural treasures from the past into the future. Beside the caravan stands the famed Turkmen Alabay dog, reflecting the steadfast guardianship of ancient customs and national pride. The opposite side of the globe features a map of Turkmenistan and stylised renditions of buildings registered in the Guinness World Records, further highlighting the building’s significance. Encircling the globe ride cyclist figures, heralding the idea that strong, healthy generations are Earth’s greatest asset. The Bicycle Building embodies the promotion of physical culture and sport in our independent homeland, the active introduction of healthy‑lifestyle principles in society, the continued development of cycling nationwide, and the enhancement of Ashgabat’s architectural and urban image.
